Himeko Hanatsuka is the main protagonist of Kemuri to Mitsu a 12yearold girl from the Hanatsuka family.
After her mother falls ill Himeko moves from Tokyo to Nagoya where she continues her life as an ordinary elementary schooler. Despite her young age she is betrothed to Bunji Tsuchiya a 30yearold military officeran arrangement that quietly shapes her future. Often seen wearing a beautifully patterned kimono Himeko balances childhood innocence with the weight of adult expectations.
