Still Sick: Love and Laughs Overcoming Challenge
Hello This is my first review on this website if I do anything wrong with formatting or you have any suggestions please do let me know. And without further ado this is my review of Still Sick I will try to keep as few spoilers as I can.
Still Sick is a very personal manga to me as someone new to this space me discovering it was pure luck and I started reading it a few months back and Ive fallen in love with this manga a lot. Recently Ive rediscovered myself in how I place my sexuality as a woman primarily through Yuri. And Ill take you through why this manga works for me and Ill of course block out any spoilers.
First point this manga I feel is very good at knowing when to have fun and when to take itself seriously. The dynamic between Shimizu and Maekawa is fun as your expectations at least from the first few chapters with Maekawas personality are totally flipped as you see minor spoiler and seeing the way they interact is charming and lighthearted fun.
Second point and more spoilers Maekawa and Shimizu both grow because of each other is they truly both bring joy into each others life they both together are more than the sum of their parts and I think it is done subtly. Especially with how major spoilers .
Third point it never overstays its welcome. The fact that this manga can do so much with 3 volumes is to me admittedly somewhat still an outsider to this space amazing. It feels so densely packed with good writing and I love every bit of it. Shimizu and Maekawa seem real and with every interaction it really does feel like I am watching a real romance happen in front of me. Well you could say they overcome their problems rather quickly when you think about the timespan of this manga to me its done well and in a very impactful way. I want to root this couple I want to see them together I want to see them be happy.
Lastly this is a minor point but I really love the artstyle of this manga. It feels weirdly nice to look at. I think it fits very well in way that I cant describe well it just works perfectly for the lighthearted less serious moments and super well for when it wants you to take it seriously. It really helped me get immersed and I think Akashi did an amazing job.
Conclusion: I could write more but what else can I say without giving it away? Read this manga I want you to have the magic I did. It is truly something special.
