Trillion Game Anime Review
Why Did I Choose To Watch This
Trillion Game is written by Riichiro Inagaki the writer of Dr Stone Eyeshield 21. Hes one of my all time favorite writers in anime. The main reason is his in depth research he puts into his series more on that later. The other reason I decided to watch this series was because of the plot. Two homies trying to make a trillion dollars? Count me in. It had shades of some of the aspirations that me and Aunn the cohost of our Anime+ podcast hold. Knowing that this series was going to be well written and be a series about two friends doing everything they can to become rich was all I needed to know. This series was ranked pretty low in terms of popularity before it aired so there was some cause for concern there but we all know low popularity does not mean its a bad show.
Plot Mechanics
At this point I have so much faith in Inagaki that I knew the plot would deliver. Suffice to say I wasnt wrong. One perk of Inagaki solely doing the writing and allocating the artwork to another mangaka is that it gives him time to research. Similar to his previous series Dr Stone you can tell the amount of time he took researching the complex elements in this anime.
In the interest of not spoiling the plot Ill be broad. The triumphant moments in the show were always well delivered. Everything from the daunting challenges and the buildup when overcoming these challenges made the triumphant moments that much better. I also cant understate how well thought out every move from the main characters was. Every idea the characters had became a well formulated plan. Every successfully executed plan led to something bigger and better. Ive always loved when a series has rapid progression and this fits the bill. Not to mention I couldnt predict where the series was going.
For an anime thats heavily based on real world occurrences and themes this was pretty accurate. Of course being an anime things will be exaggerated but almost everything that happens in this series is realistic to a certain extent.
Plot : 9.5/10
Aesthetics/Vibes
This show isnt necessarily a show that is supposed to have a relaxed chill vibe. However the series did a great job of turning a moneyhungry plotline into a series that could make light of certain problems and really expand on the happy moments. Now to be completely honest some of the characters were somewhat dull. Gakus character wasnt something I found interesting and I found him to be a tad annoying. However his counterpart in Haru was such an interesting character. The self proclaimed greediest man alive was indeed extremely greedy but he had a heart of gold. It was interesting to watch him put up a facade of how he really was versus how he wanted to be portrayed. Although Gaku was the innocent lovable one Harus personality was what made the anime so fun to watch.
Aesthetics/Vibes: 8.5/10
Art/Animation
If youre coming into an anime solely for top tier art and animation. You wont get that with this anime. By no means was the animation egregious but it just wasnt particularly steller. It was subpar at best but thats ok. This anime is all about its plot. Theres no fighting no dramatization no immersive world none of that. Overall the animation isnt something that one would come to this series about but the other aspects of this anime offset that. The character design was also somewhat not that compelling. Personally I thought the characters lacked a bit of life style and definition. But again this anime is supposed to be realistic.
Art/Animation: 4/10
Overall Rating/Recommendation
I would easily recommend Trillion Game to almost every anime fan. In fact Ive been recommending it to almost everyone. Its an anime with a nice change of pace that definitely delivers. While the art and animation isnt the most aesthetically pleasing its not what this anime is. This animes strong suit is its strong in depth plot about making a trillion dollars. Trillion Game does a great job of turning a very greedy theme into a fun spirited journey of making money. Haru was a great character and one that many anime fans will enjoy. Overall this is a must watch for any anime fan.
