S4 and S5 have to be one of the best arcs in all of anime perfect pacing the whole way through even the ending which I thought no way they could pull off a satisfying ending in just that one episode but they managed to execute it flawlessly I heard that at the time this adaptation was ahead of the manga which you rarely hear of so thats cool af that they cooked this for anime first. I made a bunch of notes as I was watching so I could somewhat structure it from start to finish. I got such a hype boner for Rampo at the start lmao I thought fuck Kamui is capturing all of the Detective Agency members just then for it to be revealed that it was actually Rampo saving them all hes such a fucking goat. Then we have the reveal that Fukuchi the leader of the hunting dogs is actually Kamui that fully shocked me I didnt see it coming like I thought surely the leader would be someone we already know but I was never thinking that it was him just based on the history of him with Fukuzawa. Then we got the fucking insane fight episode 3 truly made me speechless I thought Akutagawa and Atsushi outsmarted him because Atsushi finally trusted Akutagawa but NOPE this mf brings out the fact that he can CUT the past with his op sword. Which btw was even more fucking op because his special power multiplies the strength of weapons by like 1000. And the episode ended with Akutagawas head being cut off. Oh and Akutagawa just casually drops that he has some lung problem so thats why he feels rushed to prove himself to Dazai and probably why he gave Atsushi only 6 months for the fight maybe that was the time limit for his lifespan idk. And then at the start of next ep we get the reveal of Bra chan and he turned Akutagawa into a vampire so technically he didnt die. There were tons of fakeout deaths but not a single one pissed me off because I knew they were all plays to outsmart someone.
I predicted in my s4 review that Tachihara would now be used as a double agent by Mori and I was right Haki. I really thought Tachihara won the fight vs Fukuchi because the metal ability pretty much hard counters him but this mf once again proved how insanely op he is by sending information to the past and lured Tachihara over to a specific spot where he sliced the sword for the future. That was absolutely insane it really gives you a feel for what we are up against also he slashes Tachiharas eyes out that was brutal. And not only does Fukuchis power enhance his op sword it also enhances Bra chan since hes a weapon so the vampire ability is giga enhanced so the possiblity of world domination was much sooner than anyone would anticipate. They really nailed the scale of this whole plot the entire arc like the stakes at hand are unbelievably high that any fuck up can cost the whole world. Bra Chan was one of the 10 tragedies which happened to the world really cool world building moment same with the reveal of the one order which is a weapon the government kept incase of an emergency it making anyone follow orders no matter what is definitely one of the most op shit you can have. We had Jounos betrayal I really loved how they did that because I thought this dude is just an evil bastard but just a quick glimpse of his past showed that he enjoyed protecting people Jouno was actually the true mvp of this arc because without him telling Aya about the situation then the whole world would be over. Aya idk if she is a new character because she looks familiar but I dont remember seeing her but anyway to make just a regular character like her have the largest impact on the entire plot was wild I loved it. She is actually giga smart too when she was hiding from Fukuchi I was like where tf is she hiding turns out it was inside the coffin which was genius lol and that was what kindled the best connection bra chan and Aya.
Then we go to the Prison situation with Fyodor and Dazai they are both actually insane af. I loved this whole part because it felt like 2 true geniuses just going at each other trying to one up one another. We were cutting back to these a lot with Sigma just being like wtf is going on these guys are just crazy sigma is a W character btw he is definitely going to join the detective agency imo. There are some memey scenes but I really loved them the highlight for me was Bra chan being shown music and he is basically an Aya simp now I liked the little detail that it was the ed music playing and then shortly after it cut to the ED that made me smile so much lol. BRO FUCKING KENJI THO OMG his pop off moment was so fucking good you dont want to make this mf angry because he is insanely op. HIS BACKSTORY btw was the most badass backstory ive ever seen mf STOPPED a MUDSLIDE/LANDSLIDE from touching his farm he is the best farmer you will ever lay your eyes on. Him and Tetchou interaction at the end of the fight was great Tetchou is honestly a based character liked him the whole time. Then we go back to the mind games with Dazai and Fyodor bro the whole reveal that there was some giga thief imprisoned who was using the time stop ability every morning part of the plea deal to help them out and the fact that it wouldnt effect Dazais conciousness because of his ability was really hype. I thought we finally outsmarted Fyodor once and for all but that wasnt the case at the time. We then get the 1 v 1 with Fukuchi and Fukuzawa and parts of their past their relationship goes back so far and it was that connection which really helped wrap up the arc in just the final episode. AND THEN BACK TO THE PRISON AGAIN LMFAO this time Fyodor outsmarted Dazai and tried to drown him but ofc Dazai the goat escapes but then has to save Sigma at the cost of himself. Sigma then finds some random note I was like wtf is this surely Dazai left it for him. But turns out that it was from Fyodor for his act to portray a split personality I completely fell for it LMAO just like Sigma and then Fyodor was just like sike that is the most basic trope. We then see Chuuya shoot Dazai in the head I knew at the time ofc dazai isnt dead but I didnt know how. And then the final episode turns literally every part on its head from what looked like certain doom into a complete somewhat victory. I had somewhat of a feeling that when Fyodor got into that helicopter that something would happen and boom I was right Dazai was alive this whole time and shared how he outsmarted with the fact that Chuuya wasnt a vampire this whole time honestly such a great act by him tho because usually hes emotional and doesnt shut up lol. We then got the mf hero play by Aya She couldnt get the sword out of Bra chan so she basically sacrificed her own life to make the extra weight to save the whole world this was a really good way to conclude her snippets of backstory because she was always called a failure but now she is legit the hero she had the courage. Anyway Bra chan saved her afterwards and pledged himself to her so now Aya has the power of vampires whenever she wants I really love Bra chan he never cared about the world but he cared about his people. Finally we had Fukuzawa outplay Fukuchi the sword was still stuck in him so he used that to attack and then he used the One order to cancel all the attacks. The best part about that for me is that Fukuchi configured it to listen to Fukuzawas voice meaning he had planned for Fukuzawa to take the burden this whole time if his plan failed. Then we got the final moments with Fukuchi which basically gave us the true motive of everything. He just wanted world peace and to stop wars he learned that there would be a world war in the future which would cost 210 million lives so his plan which was to sacrifice 500 lives for world peace he saw that as worth it.
However like Fukuzawa says even if he had his world domination it would just be a dictatorship and human history shows how that ends there will still always be a us and them even if you think humanity is united because the reality is you can never truly unite humanity. Fukuzawa has to now take the burden of being the hero that is the curse that Fukuchi placed upon him. And then my secret fav girl Teruko comes in to kill Fukuchi because Fukuzawa couldnt do it I honestly cried in that moment because I knew how much Teruko cared about her master. She was great the entire arc I hope she joins the detective agency. Now that I think about it we still dont know who is gonna be the member who will join the port mafia whoever it is im guessing is gonna be replaced by sigma anyway since they kept going on about him just wanting a home where he is not used which is the definition of the detective agency. Finally after the arc concludes we get a small taste of whats to come with Atsushi and Akutagawa fighting off against some woman I have no idea what that is about but yeh im so down I just cant see Atsushi and Akutagawa as enemies anymore they are basically rivals who constantly fight with each other. The season just had so many hype moments and twists and turns which kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I enjoyed every single moment this series has so many banger characters and the mystery elements are done so well that it keeps you guessing the entire time. It might be a long af wait for s6 but where they ended it rn is honestly the perfect stopping point. Fyodor definitely isnt dead still only saw his arm and we dont know what his ability is still mf is definitely alive for the future. Shoutout to Nikolai too what a weird but fun character. GOATED ANIME. 9TH BEST.
