Xin/Shin/New Getter Robo however youd like to spread your cheese is a very conflicting show while there is something very novel to see how one would mesh Getter Robo Getter Robo G and Shin Getter Robo in a blender alongside incorporating Toei Getter elements that did work I feel as if the budget and the length really constricted it from reaching its full potential. Having this be my first full Getter Robo anime was definitely a lot better than ever finish Toei Getter Robo will be I must admit.
The shows portrayals of Ryoma Hayato and Musashi/Benkei combined into one character for this show are also odd to say the least. While I can understand the desire to emphasize the morality of each character kind of being a bit questionable already the show does not have the time or budget to flesh them out beyond being rather one dimensional characters that you follow in this thirteen episode series. It is a shame I feel like we could have just kept the characters as they were in the manga and it would have served fine But maybe this is just my devotion to the manga that is holding me back from enjoying them. It just to me feels like we just took the archetypes the boys have and ran with it over just adapting their personalities proper or not even showing how their new takes could be as interesting as their original counterparts. Still I will take these over Toei Getter any day of the week.
The animation ranges from webseries jank to very fluid and beautiful frames once again reflecting how awkward this show is. It aesthetically is the best to me but it lacks the time and budget for it to work. I have to keep bringing up the time and budget criticism every time because it really is what is stopping this from reaching as the best Getter adaption really Every ingredient was here and it was not able to successfully do it Maybe there is a life where this show had 26 episodes at most in the modern anime scene and was able to flesh everything out the way it feels like it really wanted to.
The music and voice acting is for sure part of some real highlights JAM Project even if being a bit more lowkey is making some true bangers out of this and the cast is making the most of their characters. For sure this is what I hear when I am reading the manga with maybe the sole excception of Ryoma whom I will never not here Akira Kamiya in my head because Kamiya was the man to yell his ass off for hype moments.
Ultimately as much as Id love to wholly recommend it I find it hard to. Could it be an easy crash course for a new fan? Sure But as a person who has been a fan for a while now it isnt scratching my itch.
