This review will contain only vibe spoilers. In other words I wont disclose details other than how they felt. Ive put the entire review in spoiler tags as a last resort but this really is your last chance to back out before I spoil the vibe of the ending which I will do immediately:
Then a vibe spoiler for the start:
Then a vibe spoiler for the middle:
Now the vibe spoilers are out of the way Ill say I loved the art its not particularly revolutionary but its high quality and a great fit for the manga the author clearly wanted to make.
Up until the ending I greatly enjoy the plot and characterisation.
The themes and issues covered are more mature and in depth than 99 of manga.
If the ending was handled better Id probably give this a 95 or so for what its worth Im talking about the pacing/tropes of the ending being lacklustre the vibe of the ending I am not complaining about.
I still wont spoil details but in the below spoiler I will disclose tropes etc. of the ending so another chance to back out and read the work before reading:
All in all I do still strongly recommend reading or watching the adaptation which for all we know could fix the ending but I doubt it considering theres only one episode left. The ending isnt bad bad by any means it doesnt ruin the rest of the work and the rest of the work is short enough that theres only really one excuse not to read it and thats that you cant handle the themes which fair enough.
Its extremely unlikely to happen but Id welcome the author redoing the ending same vibes but fix some of the issues. I think its very doable and Ive already read some fan alternatives that I prefer as well as come up with a couple of my own. Call that arrogance if you will but I dont write many reviews this is my first one in years despite consuming at least 50 anime/manga per year if not more so this criticism of the ending comes from a place of love the fact Im singling it out shows how special I think the rest of the story is and strong the emotions it invoked in me are. I dont think this much about mediocre endings for almost all anime/manga.
So thinking up and exploring alternative endings instead of just moving on with my life isnt just arrogance its also a tribute to how much the start and middle meant to me.
