When I saw an anime pop up called Turkey I immediately thought to myself what a funny name adding this to p2w for the memes and it stayed there for months until the fateful day when it started airing. From the outside it looked innocent just like any other cute girls doing sports type show that I am fond of. There was nothing that seemed odd. And there wasnt Turns out Turkey is just another sports anime that doesnt really stand out in any way other than being in a unique niche of being about bowling. Girls like bowling but there is a drama in their group and they want to fix it and then go win some tournament. A little bit dramatic at times but what isnt these days. ... Yeah that was a lie. You can tell something is off just by browsing the anilist page like why are the main girls standing in the rain when everything around them is on fucking fire on the banner. I remember it actually was pretty normal before the show aired it was a bit less conspicuous back then. The second clue lies in the tags list or rather the 11 spoiler tags that dont show up by default compared to only 7 open ones. Right next to them is the last piece of the puzzle the recommendations: Doomsday Train School Live as top 2? Yup you can tell this shits gonna be wild before even starting. Actually the description from the first paragraph is not a lie but it only applies to the first 20 minutes of the first episode. After that we discover that bowling during thunderstorms has a lot in common with microwaving bananas and the show truly starts. First half of the show could be described as dumb high school girls trying to blend into 15th centurys society without being suspicious to not change history. They are about as inconspicuous as a Polar Bear in Arlington Texas. They are so terrible at it that they spill the beans to everyone relevant about halfway through and the rest is just them having a blast in the past teaching the society how to play bowling. Oh and there is drama. Holy fucking shit there is so much drama. I genuinely cant think of a show that has as much drama as Turkey. Not a single episode can go without someone getting mad frustrated scared sad dorceless or suicidal. Or murderous. Every girl gets their own piece of the drama cake by having an episode focused on them and their 15th century counterpart which can easily be identified by the hair colour having an existential meltdown more or less. No punches are pulled we get suicide threats murder attempts assault with a deadly bowling ball accidental near death experiences and of course just plain stupidity. One of the girls gets a special award for not wanting to stick together in the situation they are in because shes not too fond of the other ones note that the alternative to staying together is getting killed within days if not hours from various threats. All the conflict in the show builds up every episode turns up the heat to cook the turkey to perfection. And then beyond perfection. It cooks so hard we get some bowling with everyones lives on the line. Thats not a dish thats just a whole bird that was set on fire. And its pure kino. After youre done with the show all theres left to do is to thank the chef for a splendid meal. This all makes me mad that Drama isnt listed in the genres. This is unacceptable and I will boycott anilist till they add it because I dont know how to do it myself. If Kongming is a drama show then Turkey is a goddamn spectacle. Its not bad though. I mean it kinda is. I may have sounded a bit harsh on the show but thats because its really stupid and because of that its incredibly entertaining. The drama is so thick that it loops back from being serious to being hilarious. The situations the girls find themselves in are often quite tense but they often end in a very over the top way often involving bowling balls. It is not a high form of entertainment but if you just dont think about it too much it is fun. The production quality is good everything looks and sounds nice theres not much to complain in that aspect. I really hate when people give objectivity ratings because the entire point of ratings is that theyre subjective. Unlucky for the previous person that reviewed the show they thought this show was about their hobby poor them. As someone who couldnt care less about bowling I can wholeheartedly recommend this for anyone that wants some over the top drama.
