if youre on this website i think it is safe to say that youre obsessed with anime or manga at least a little bit. though as of recent years its become a popular hobby maybe some of you still feel alone in it... well fear not our mc hina alucard is here to make you feel seen
hina is one of the best shoujo mcs ive ever seen. she has it all: looks silliness kindness ability to fight back. and she is a huge fan of a certain anime title and especially its side character her shenanigans are a joy to witness. hina is an adult but when she talks about her weeb obsession its like she turns into a child whose heart is full of happiness. she is a great reminder that whatever brings you happiness is worth pursuing no matter your age and no matter if others will deem you childish for it.
before getting obsessed with anime she was a hikikomori so we also get to see her learning to live. she makes mistakes she is naive but she gets back up whenever she falls down. in just 4 volumes hina has become one of my top 10 characters of all time.
the worldbuilding of this manga is also worth noting. it plants the seed for vampire powerscaling as early as chapter 0 and we see it pay off greatly soon enough. though i think the mangas main attraction is slice of life vibes while watching hinas adventures and budding romance there is also a greater mystery in the plot that is tied directly to worldbuilding. it certainly caught my attention and i wonder where it will lead us next
despite the manga being mainly focusing on future heterosexual romance it also doesnt shy away from lgbt themes. we have a canonically queer character who is in love with the male lead. his plot is interestingly tied with the fact that he needs to come out as a vampire. i think it would be difficult to have a storyline about sexuality crisis and being afraid of facing homophobia so the mangaka mindfully substituted it with the fear of telling your loved ones that youre a vampire.
my only criticism of this manga so far is that it lacks one of the main shoujo attractions at least for me and that is female friendship. hina has an online female friend but we never actually see them meet up. so far only 4 volumes have been translated into english with 8 volumes being released in japanese and since i dont look at raws i dont know what the future will bring. but i sure hope hina finds a female friend to hang out with
overall it is an easy pleasant read that i recommend to anyone really. lets all enjoy the ride of hina alucards otaku adventures i hope the manga gains more recognition and eventually gets adapted into anime as i see huge potential in this likeable lighthearted project
