Plot
The anime has close to 0 plot.
Theres really not much character development other than Yuu getting more creepy and the girls all becoming friends. In reality its just Koizumi becoming a little bit more tolerant of Yuu and her tolerating Misa and Jun. Although she never really had too much of a problem if at all with Misa and Jun in the first place even though she did fire back at Misa a bit in episode 2 Hokkyoku and isolated herself from Jun also in episode 2 KKKKoizumisan.
In the end they all tolerate each other sort of.
Characters
Yuu
Yuu is extremely creepy and I didnt really like her overall character because of that. She got especially creepy in episodes 812 so if you plan to watch this beware her character is not likable.
She doesnt really have many redeeming qualities and I find her quite annoying because shes very obsessive pushy irresponsible and dramatic. Shes definitely one of the more unlikeable MCs Ive encountered but if you can get past her the anime is pretty good especially for not really having a big plot. Overall Id give her personality a 2/10.
Her character design is very basic. Its blue throughout and honestly nothing special. It might even be worse than average. You can tell not much thought went into her character design and it definitely couldve been better therefore Ill give her design a 3/10. Not the worst Ive seen but couldve 100 been improved upon.
Yuu is 100 my least favorite character in the anime.
Koizumi
Koizumi is pretty cold and shes definitely a loner but I honestly really liked her character. She tries to do her own thing and is extremely reasonable which is exactly why I like her. Shes probably the 2nd most normal person in the series. Ill give Koizumis personality a 5/10 shes an overall pretty average character nothing too special about her.
I think Koizumis character design is pretty basic but there seems to be some thought put into it. Shes described as very pretty and you can tell. Her blonde hair represents ramen noodles and her eyes seem to represent meat/ charsiu ???. She looks like the average schoolgirl overall though. Taking all this into consideration Id give her design a 6.5/10.
Koizumi is probably my favorite character. Compared to Jun it was pretty close this will be elaborated on but she is the main character and is the one who loves ramen so she gets 1st.
Jun
Jun is described to be a bit of a nerd schooloriented responsible reasonable and a bit insecure/ anxious. She also doesnt have many major personality changes but shes off the bat 100 the most normal character in the series. Shes my favorite character because as a teenager shes extremely relatable and I just love how reasonable she is. Id probably give her personality a 6.3/10. Shes nothing special but Ill give her some points for being the most normal reasonable and not annoying.
Juns character design is pretty plain and again is nothing special. Yuu and Misa dont really have any complementary colors in their designs but Jun at least does with her glasses. I dont really like her haircut but its not too bad. Green also isnt my favorite color but I do like her sweater. Overall Id give her character design a 3.5/10 slightly better than Yuu because shes still practically monotone but at least she has the different colored purpleypink glasses.
Misa
Misa is described as pretty popular and nonschooloriented. She wants to be a model or idol and doesnt know if she wants to continue schooling. Shes pretty annoying and 100 a tsundere. At some points I found her insufferable but shes also pretty relatable. Because of this shes probably my 3rd favorite character in the series so next to last above Yuu.
Misas character design is just like Yuus and Juns very plain. Shes got some interesting hair but Ive definitely seen similar hairstyles in other anime. She doesnt have any complementary colors but I do like the color pink. Overall Id give her character design a 3.3/10. I like it more than Yuus but its still not good.
Character Development
Yuus character development is honestly just her emotions being amplified. Her whole character is just somebody who is obsessed with Koizumisan. You cant really take her seriously for anything and thats even supported in episode 7 Nationwide by Misa and Jun.
Jun and Misa dont really have any character plot but have some
Jun becomes more okay with eating ramen and hot noodle soups again sorta.
Misa gets a boyfriend in one episode and he breaks up with her.
Art
The ramen looked delicious in every scene. It never looked bad in any episode.
As the series progressed you could tell that the art got worse. Many of the scenes had awkward proportions in the faces of the characters especially Yuu. The chin proportions for her head and her eye width were completely off in some of the scenes. Koizumi had some weird frames tooo where her face looked completely off. It didnt really happen so much for Misa and Jun but they also show up less in the series.
The background scenes were pretty well drawn but Ive definitely seen better. The scenes were pretty classic across all anime but that is to be expected because this takes place in a completely normal real world although Koizumis metabolism is out of the world unreal even.
Educational Aspect
This anime did actually teach me a lot about ramen. The explanations were very clear and the show opened me up to a lot of different ramen that I didnt even know existed like tomato ramen. Theres a lot to learn about ramen and this show is great for getting started. I especially enjoyed the episodes where instant ramen was used because it gave me new ideas for my own instant ramen. Ive tried out some of the recipes/hacks from episodes 3 and 4 Yuu and Koizumis hacks/recipes and they were great.
The first episode and 2nd episode were great for getting to know the characters and learning the basics of ramen
Unfortunately some of the places like the place where Yuu got cocoa ramen and Koizumi got alkali ramen closed down over quarantine but the show made me want to go to Japan more than I already did just for ramen.
Music
The music was pretty good. I liked Koizumis theme a lot. It was pretty catchy but the themes of all the characters except for Koizumis are pretty easy to miss.
Insight
This anime is one that you watch once and maybe put on in the background if you need some noise.
Its kind of cringy but in my personal opinion the ramen completely makes up for it.
As stated before this show doesnt really have a plot its different for every part of the episode. Generally there are 23 stories per episode but some of them like episode 7 are one big story even though episode 7 is split into 2 sections.
I liked this anime but Ive 100 seen a lot better anime even in the 12episode anime area. I really enjoy food anime so I may be biased but overall Id give this anime a 6.8/10 not bad.
