Super Cube 7/10 My Review
Super Cube is one of those donghua that immediately pulls you in with its energy. From the very first episode the pacing makes it clear that this series has no interest in wasting your time and honestly that fastpaced structure is one of the best things it has going for it. Every episode is stacked with movement fights upgrades transformations and constant progression. Theres barely a moment where the story slows down and in a world where a lot of anime drag their feet Super Cube feels refreshingly direct.
Visually the show is stunning. Say what you want about donghua but when they hit they hit hard and Super Cube is definitely one of the betterlooking ones. The animation is clean the powers look sharp the character designs pop and the digital effects really help sell the scifi energy of the world. Every time the main character activates a new upgrade or ability it genuinely feels impactful because of how slick the visuals are. Its one of those shows where even if youre not fully invested in the plot the animation alone can keep you entertained.
Now speaking of the plot this is where Super Cube struggles a bit. Theres nothing wrong with a simple story and the show clearly leans into the hero with a big heart facing challenges formula but it also never really pushes beyond that. The premise had the potential to go a lot deeper especially considering how unique the cube system couldve been. Instead the story chooses to stay safe: main character gets stronger faces danger protects people and repeats. Its not bad just not as interesting as it couldve been. You can almost see the parts where the plot could have evolved into something bigger but it never really takes that extra step.
One thing that affected my enjoyment more than I expected was the episode length. Every episode is basically around 16 minutes once you remove the intro and outro and when you combine that with the fact that it releases once per week it becomes genuinely annoying. Just when youre getting into the action or something important starts happening boom the episode ends. Its the kind of format that makes bingewatching feel great but waiting weektoweek feels like a punishment. The pacing is fast but the runtime undercuts the momentum almost like the series is stuck in a loop of just getting started.
As for audio I watched it subbed. They only started dubbing it around episode seven and by that point I was already used to the voices. I couldnt switch to the dub because it just felt off after being invested in the sub version. So I dont really have an opinion on how good or bad the dub is it just wasnt for me.
Despite its flaws Super Cube is genuinely fun. The action is exciting the powers are cool and the animation gives the entire series a strong sense of style. Its not a deep show and it isnt trying to be. Sometimes you want something straightforward something fast flashy and entertaining and Super Cube delivers exactly that. Its the kind of donghua that you watch knowing its not perfect but still end up enjoying it for what it is.
For me its a solid 7/10. Good animation great pacing nice action but held back by short episodes and a plot that never reaches its full potential. Still worth watching if youre into fastpaced visually clean scifi donghua.
