VISUALS and CHARACTERS
For an action fantasy anime the character designs are quite simple. The world building so far also feels similar to other shows in the same genre nothing particularly unique. When it comes to the fights this anime is definitely above average. The camera movement and choreography make the battles dynamic and never boring. What stands out the most however are the characters expressions they feel alive especially those satisfying smug smiles each character gives. Even the NPCs are designed with care having detailed eyes and expressions particularly noticeable during the Water City war. Although theres some CGI its not too distracting.
STORY and DEVELOPMENT
The premise itself isnt new a top player from an MMO gets trapped inside the game inhabiting the avatar they used and tries to uncover whats really going on. The story begins with Lufas the MC wondering what happened after the 200 years of her being sealed away. The world has changed drastically the once insignificant Demon Lord has nearly conquered everything. This contrast makes the story engaging. Now Lufass goal is to gather her twelve servants to decide what to do next accompanied by Dina her support.
What makes this otherwise typical plot interesting is the execution. Each quest to find a servant is told in a different way so even though the goal is repetitive it never feels boring. Each servant also has a very distinct personality adding more depth to the story. Their actions after Lufass disappearance are also intriguing: Aries the femboy seeks revenge and tries to destroy Water City Libra the golem protects Lufass treasures from being looted Aigokeros the old man collaborates with demons to wipe out humanity and so on. These differences really add color to the anime. If you pay attention the twelve servants are inspired by the twelve zodiac signs. However they dont use entirely familiar names for instance Aigokeros.
Then theres Dina. At first she seems like an ordinary support character but when she goes to retrieve Libra I started to notice something suspicious about her. Strange things keep happening and the show clearly hints at it so I wouldnt call it a plot twist. The real twist in my opinion is that even after shes revealed to be a servant of the Demon Lord it feels like shes still hiding something deeper. As for Lufas she faces her own internal struggle her personality and that of the player overlap creating an interesting inner conflict. Combined with Lufass tragic past it allows the player to empathize with her and even grow to resent the goddess who caused all of this.
FAVORITE CHARACTER
Its hard to choose between Lufas and Dina. Dinas secrets are deeply complex but as the main character Lufas truly stands out she radiates the authority of someone who once conquered the entire world. I think Ill go with Lufas.
