Im a little surprised no one has written a review for this yet Ill try. I consider it a hidden little gem. Its an episodic show with no overarching story and highly inconsistent quality and theme but when its good its very enjoyable. Some episodes follow an emotional drama and are simple direct and downtoearth those are the worst. Other episodes are dreamlike and concern more surreal sometimes unclear storylines those are the best.
There isnt much of a line connecting the different episodes so I can only review them one by one. It feels like they gave cash to some creatives and let them do whatever. The first episode Yukinas is the most scifi mechay one and the rest of the show is not exactly like this. The one that comes closest to it is Ayakas episode and those are the most mediocre of the bunch. There is nothing in them that is memorable youve probably seen very similar stuff already the jokes arent exactly original but it serves if you need to watch something while eating lunch. I mean I thought Yukina was cute
Unfortunately the actual bad stuff is really a drag. Chinami Ouses episode which is in the first half of the show if Im remembering right is a pain to get through. The story is clichd the animation is stilted and the art direction is unoriginal and plain not good. This was the only point where I got bored and it almost made me drop this thing but Im glad I didnt. The hazy atmosphere of Hatsumis Uraras and the Murasame sisters gives off that otherwordly feeling that is so hard to find in media in general but that animation can pull off in an unique way. Hatsumis would be better if it was told in a linear way the timeline confusion doesnt accomplish much and only detracts from the plot and I wish they put a little more time in animating the Murasame sisters since its the most original one but they were still worth my twenty minutes. Uraras was my favorite. Youre floating in the head of a romantic grieving girl for the duration and I liked all the softeness and the imagery in it. Those three along with Tanpopos episode are decent examples of how to tell a satisfying story in a limited runtime as well.
Kasumis episode is not a decent example of how to tell a story in a limited runtime. Out of all of them it was the one I felt more strongly that there wasnt much accomplished which sucks because Kasumi was one of my favorite characters I like a woman in a motorcycle. She just wasnt given enough screentime on her own episode. There wasnt much of a plot and the characters surrounding here werent carrying it either.
In conclusion give it a go if you like quirky shows with some good dramatic beats. Its not some kind of hidden masterpiece but theres enough good here to make it worth it. Way less angels than youd expect though. They kinda ignore that motif for most of it.
