STORY and DEVELOPMENT
The story is about a high school boy and his little sister who move to live with their aunt after their parents die in an accident leaving behind their old lives and love stories until they meet new people. The premise sounds simple but the character portrayals are done really well. Some people might not like this anime because of its ecchi parts or because Watari the MC looks indecisive and inconsistent but for me thats what makes it interesting. Each characters development is clear.
Suzu the lil sister starts out childish and clingy always wanting her brothers attention. But later she realizes her behavior keeps her brother from enjoying his school life.
Tokui the best friend at first seems to have his own agenda but it turns out he just wants his friend to choose the right person. His views on love are shaped by his sad past which makes his perspective unique.
Ishihara the classmate likes Watari because hes not like other guys who only care about looks. She also admires how Watari cares deeply for his sister. However her feelings are shown in the wrong way Ishihara wants a sexual relationship rather than emotional understanding. Even though they start dating Watari begins to feel uncomfortable because it seems like theyre doing sex not out of love but because Ishihara pushes him. This part becomes more meaningful when we learn that Watari is an illegitimate child. Thats why he lives in the countryside and it also explains why he believes sex should be something serious only with someone he truly loves and is ready to take responsibility for.
Watari MC he starts as a caring older brother but then realizes he cant stay like that forever. One day theyll have to live separately. This maturity makes him realize hes allowed to love someone other than his sister. He starts to like Ishihara but then his childhood friend reappears and a dilemma begins who does he truly love? What does love really mean? Is love just about sex or something deeper? As more of his past is revealed he learns that love isnt just words or physical connection but about responsibility and the will to walk forward with the right person.
Satsuki the childhood friend has layered emotions. She was just a kid taken on vacation with her family but for some reason they left her at the inn. The inn owner adopted her and because of her fear of being abandoned she avoided deep relationships with others. But in the end she realizes Watari is someone who truly accepts her as she is. Her change from not caring about who Watari dates to genuinely loving him is really touching. She also learns that her adoptive family truly loves her not out of pity but because they genuinely love and care.
VERDICT
like all anime i watched it to the very end. started out great but then the author started dragging it out. By episode 15 i was just watching for the hell of it. Really hated the direction the romance went. I was a ISHIHARA fan from the get go so maybe my opinion is biased. Did the author think that just because they gave Tachibana a sad back story she would be liked as a heroine. overall i give it a 4/10
