SPOILERS FOR JJK JJKM
Oh boy where do I even start. After the insanely rushed ending we got for Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo was on track for being Gege Akutamis Magnum opus giving them the chance to tie the loose ends from his original work and delving into politics social dynamics foreign cultures religion and so much more. The first 20 ish chapters proved to be one of the greatest settings for a sequel ever introducing innovative and captivating concepts like the simurians and karyans introducing them not only as extraterrestrial beings but giving them actual depth by explaining the internal conflicts between the simurians tribes and the sorrow that the twins and Dabura share from their backstory with Doula. Gege also brought back the chance to explain Cursed Energy being used as an actual energy source using Mul and the Naunax. The way both pairs of twins were being given depth showing how one side had trouble understanding the other while the other side wanted a way to get their feelings to be known was another one of Geges spoton characterizations. I cant explain with words how hooked I was on this series. The tension between earthlings and Simurians Karyans being Cursed Spiritlike Cross getting attacked. And dont even get me started on the cursed techniques. Dabura being top 5 in the verse while not even knowing a simple domain?
But all this great work being diminished by Geges lack of ability of writing a conclusion. Offscreening the single most important fight in the manga not even his first time doing so youd think he wouldve learned after the first right after hyping up that Dabura was finally going to give his 100. Hell he even off screened the totally unnecessary though appreciated 3 page long romance between the chef and big D.
Not even an offscreen this time but he also totally forgot to include a single appearance of the third part of the main trio aside from a whatif mention of his name. Cant escape the title of potential man. Really makes you think if hes doing it on purpose or if the entirety of the project was just an excuse to give a Yuji Upscale
Visually nothing was left to be desired. Iwasaki Yuuji did a phenomenal job representing every character every fight every background and so on. Compared to Geges artstyle it feels similar enough so the previously known characters do feel like they are the same person not looking offplace at all while also being different enough. What I mean is it feels like a breath of fresh air to be capable of understanding whats actually happening in the fight instead of Geges chickenscratching. Its so unfortunate that such a great artstyle had to be paired with a letdown ending
Overall this whole series just feels like a timeskip fanfic straight from Wattpad in which the author had to cut the story short because their iPad was taken by their parents for failing their middle school exam. Its definitely enjoyable but not meant to be taken seriously whatsoever
