A sequel story that couldve offered more
Welcome to part 2 of Gege does not know how to end a series properly that they have been working on I will keep this review a bit shorter I have said this before but made it long anyway we shall see sorry for the people that consistently read my reviews because there is in my opinion not too much to say for this. We have Jujutsu Kaisen but now with aliens. The concept of it was not that bad in the end and the way things got explained did work out but it again had a core problem of feeling rushed in the end.
First the start of this manga I did not like it. I get why they went with the route they did but it set the story up for a completely different feeling for me. It started of with a mission for the alien and our main characters Yuuka and Tsurugi. What first felt like some basic action shounen started turning around very quickly when we started to look into the past of the aliens. At this moment it felt like the manga did a very big shift in tone and made it feel like it became more of a very big political story of relation between Japan the aliens and the rest of the world. I am glad that is what this manga actually was about but the set up couldve been better. The middle part focussed very heavily on this political aspect which made the read very interesting. The origin of the aliens the way aliens and humans can start to exist together and how to deal with the things known as cursed spirits which the aliens consider to be their family? It brought us a lot of different things which were all very interesting but with one major issue cramming this all up in 15ish chapters while announcing two great fights in the middle and then trying to end it is just an impossible task.
The middle part of this manga touched on too many themes for its own good with the short space it actually had for it and it brought me a sense of hope that got shattered in the end. I wish we couldve seen more of the humans having talks with the aliens about things and not the way it got handled now. The fight between Dabura and well I should say Mahoraga was something that was gonna be so sick and I wished we couldve seen something more of it but it felt way too short. Its the type of fight that just deserves to be hyped. Tsurugi fighting Maru also was something that couldve felt pretty hype but felt way too short again too. The reason why the fights feeling too short bothers me is because of the way this manga started. giving me the feeling we are getting some regular action shonen since it felt just like a regular mission wed have in the original Jujutsu Kaisen.

And talking about the original? I would really want to see this manga as something on its own but I cant. There are just way too many references to the old Jujutsu Kaisen which makes sense but it causes the necessity to look back at the old story too and the connections its making. I am not a fan of the way Jujutsu Kaisen ended and I feel like it deserved better. This manga bringing back certain things felt cheap in some way and it just ended up bothering me a lot. I am sad that there were a lot of things that this manga had going for itself the political aspect as mentioned before the new characters and then especially Dabura and a chance to explain stuff clearly about cursed energy cursed spirits and the connection of those things with the aliens. While some of these things did feel good it again had to suffer from the curse of feeling rushed. I really hate how chapter 23 was an insanely heavy lore drop and the story just ended two chapters after it.
In conclusion I can give a short description of this story just like I did with the original Jujutsu Kaisen potential that got wasted. However for me this felt like an even bigger shame then the original in some way. Was it because I started to feel so hopeful in the middle? It might be the case but where it stands I had to debate very hard how Id rate this story. The way the ending let me down just makes it hard for me and makes me wonder how needed all of this was. I just wish we couldve had a Jujutsu Kaisen with a good ending for once. My final rating for this story will be a 6.4 because of all these issues.
