This is an overview about a very niche manga with a deepsea biology theme and it environment written and drawn by Kiyomi Sugishita.
Story
Deepsea aquarium magmell is an educational sliceoflife type media. Its sort of the same style of sliceoflife like Ruri no Houseki. But this one is more on the warm drama instead of comedy.
The style of the storytelling is pretty much trying to educate the reader through a familiarity approach helping us relate to the animalthrough the lenses of the characters perspectives.
The story follows a boy named Koutarou Tenjou who applies to work at a deepsea aquarium because of his passion for deepsea life. Instead of being recruited as a keeper he is hired as a janitor because all the keeper positions are currently full. However he doesnt give up his love for the deep sea is deeper than anything else. As long as he can see these animals every day it is enough for him.
One of the crew in his work called him Giant Isopodkun because of that Giant Isopod is called a neutral cleaner of the deep since theyre usually eat detritus that has fallen to the seabed.
But no worries I dont think he mean it in a malice intent. Koutarou took that as an offensive though. Feels like hes being misunderstood. Just like how Giant Isopod is often being misunderstood as a gross and boring animal since theyre a pillbug and rarely move even tho theres a lot of cool things to know about them. Like how giant isopod can keep on living without eating for a whole 5 years
Otherwise because this is an educational scifi mediaits very important to know whether the story stays true to the science or not right? Id say with me reading them with a deepsea scientific paper beside me because I wanna know more about the information beyond the manga explanation yes theyre pretty accurate
And because this is an entertainment media does it entertain enough to keep on reading? Well thats subjective. But if you like a warm comfy approach like Fox Maid Senko series then yes it should be entertaining for you. Plus point if you love the ocean or the deep sea.
Art
Id say the paneling is a godtier and also very unique too. Sometimes the artist trying to make a continuous double page like that. Its very fun to see sometimes. And because this is a marine biology manga of course the artist is going to draw the creatura as detail as possible and theyre doing a very good job at delivering that.
Another thing I like to add is that Kiyomi Sugishita seems to be trying to draw the marine snow looks like a cluster of star sometimes. Creating a glimpse looks like theyre inside of a planetarium full of deepsea animal.
5 continuous spread pages ??
theres a lot of spread pages like this occurring in the manga.
I think thats all I can say about the Deepsea Aquarium Magmell. Give it a try if you want some warm story to read.
