I started watching this anime because I can relate to Kuroshita by also being an idol fan and I ended up enjoying it way more than I expected. I actually found myself binging the whole series without break and then waiting for the final episode to be released with a bittersweet feeling in my heart knowing that it will end. Considering this is the only series in my entire anime watching experience so far that I actually relate to a lot I decided to write a review for the first time. Ill go over everything I find important relating to the series and mark some plottwist related/deeper plot information as spoiler for those that have not watched the series yet. Animation: When watching idol anime I find it offputting when they choose to use 3D animation during the stages and dances. However despite Tamons Bside having scenes with 3D models it wasnt as hard to watch as in other cases. The studio actually chose to blend 3D scenes with 2D scenes in certain cases or fully go for 2D which positively surprised me. Other than that I really liked the series unique artstyle and vibe especially how certain fandelusion moments were depicted because it made it more funny and it actually felt like an accurate representation of a 16 year old idol fans mind. Humor: Surprisingly not one comedic scene felt forced or out of place. The comedy came naturally it had a good placement reason and it wasnt dragged for too long. Most of the humor comes from Kuroshita interacting with Tamon and the consequences of a fan being in close proximity with her favorite guy be it too hot to handle or too normal to imagine hes the same person I fantasize about as well as Kuroshitas silly little crazyaboutherfave mind. Perhaps some scenes in which our MC defends her oshi can be a bit too much but it is typical fan behaviour. Overall the series seems to be very selfaware about how crazed Kuroshita and her type of fans are and doesnt push too much on it therefore I found myself actually laughing a lot during the series. Characters: Kuroshita silly highschool student who likes this idol so much that she decides to pick up a job just to have money to support him by buying tickets merch and albums. She is hardworking dedicated really kind loyal funny and overall a genuine girl. By the end of the series through the events that happen she learns more about herself both as a person but also as an idol fan which I loved to see Her struggles and conflict are to be expected and feel relatable if you imagine yourself in a similar position. Tamon sometimes feels a bit exaggerated and overbearing but overall I can totally imagine some of my faves being exactly like him on and off screen so I ended up really appreciating and liking his character and evolution throughout the series. Tamons group members i loved to see that most of the group members were given their little arc sotospeak and were explored more than just existing for the sake of Tamon not being a solo artist. Voice Acting: I have to give it to the male voice actors here because they really did a good job. When the first song first played I thought that they were actual idols singing but I was surprised to find out that the voice actors actually sung the songs as well and it didnt come off as uncomfortable to listen to. Also the way they depicted different emotions was mesmerizing sometimes Id even wonder if it is the same person that voiced the character up to that point. Plot: Overall it is the type of what if scenario any fan who is too involved with their faves imagined themselves in at least once but with more depth and much funnier. It is not a steamy type of story its simply wholesome and more realistic and most would like to admit at least from an emotional point of view. The story isnt too heavy and leaves you with a good feeling at the end. You cannot find yourself disliking anyone or rooting for ones downfall but you might find yourself becoming a fan for one or two of the characters and experiencing a bit of Kuroshitas world yourself. In conclusion if you are an idol fan or if you really become lowkey obsessed about your anime/game characters I truly recommend you to pick this anime up and live vicariously through our little MC for 13 episodes. Personally thats what I did and I had a blast every minute spent in this story so I ended up giving a 10 for being such a fun silly wholesome time for letting me meet everyone personally and for illustrating the love of a dedicated idol fan. Thank you JC Staff for bringing this story to our screens so that us animeonlies dont miss out.
