Do you enjoy waiting two whole seasons just for the two main characters to hold hands or confess? Do you love nonstop fan service instead of actual relationship progression? Do you enjoy being flashed in classic anime fashion? If your answer to that is an astounding YES
Well...dont watch this show if thats what youre into. This anime is everything but that
Some Spoilers Ahead
The relationship between Suzuki female lead and Tani male lead is so real throughout the entire show. This show did not wait around to jump right into the confession. This was achieved right in episode one and throughout the entire show they built up their relationship. This was achieved through emotional progression holding hands hugging and building up communication with one another. In a way this anime is everything people dream about in a relationship. Two partners that are authentically themselves with one another. By all means this anime is not some smooth romance but rather its filled with awkward human interactions.
The title in itself is literal. Suzuki and Tani both are completely different. Yet they make the relationships work and HELP each other throughout the season. For example: Suzuki learns to be honest instead of being fake for other people. While Tani learns to open up and engage more with others. THIS SHOW HAS SOME OF THE BEST CHARACTER PROGRESSION FOR A ROMANCE IVE SEEN FOR 12 EPISODES LONG
There is no forced drama or dumb misunderstandings that drag out all season. But rather the problems get solved quickly with communication. The interactions between the characters feel real and grounded. I believe they even captured how it feels to be a teen and the type of things teens do. For example Tani googling how to navigate in a relationship is realistic. I think we have all be in his position rather that be as an adult or teenager. The title doesnt only extend to Tani and Suzuki but also the supporting cast.
The supporting cast doesnt just exist to build up the main characters. But rather they have their own relationships and interpersonal struggles.
Nishi and Yamada are both from completely different classes and they have a slow burn hesitant romance. Which is the polar opposite from Tanis and Suzukis relationship. see what i did there? polar opposites haha okay ill stop sorry
Nishis and Yamadas relationship doesnt jump right into bold confession but rather it is expressed through glances teasing and subtle gestures. Which in most cases is a really realistic comparison to real life relationships that start out as friends. In a way they show a more traditional romance pacing unlike the main characters relationships. Now the other supporting characters like Taira Azuma Watanabe Satou and Honda are amazing characters themselves. Like I previously mentioned they have their own interpersonal struggles that is explored throughout 12 episodes. This anime achieves so much with only its allotted time. This anime had me laughing and smiling ear to ear every episode.
Lastly lets talk about the DUB and SUB performance. Personally I enjoyed both the sub and dub I watched episode 16 in English and 712 in Japanese and I was thrilled with both performances. The sub relys heavily on different dialects and heavy modern Japanese slang words. The English dub used modern casual slang in a way that makes the characters feel like real teens or young adults. I laughed so many times at the English dub because of the perfectly timed slang.. I just didnt expect it.
In my opinion Suzukis energy and chaotic personality really reminded me of Star Butterfly from Disneys Star vs the Forces of Evil. The moment Suzuki was introduced in episode one I immediately got a wave of nostalgia from my childhood. She is impulsive loud dramatic and will still win you over in pure chaotic energy.
This anime is pure real and all around a breath of fresh air.
Therefore I rate it 100/100 I cant wait for Season 2
